VA – Strength Magazine Presents… Subtext (CD) (1999) (FLAC + 320 kbps)
Sire’s Strength Magazine Presents Subtext is an intriguing collection of hardcore and underground hip-hop from the late ’90s. There are a few familiar names, at least to rap fans — Rob Swift and Del the Funky Homosapien have been around for a while — but the main strength of the compilation is that it introduces lesser-known names to a wider audience, including curious listeners that may have heard of the names, but not the specific recordings. There may be some things that don’t work as well as others, but overall, there’s quite a lot of very good stuff here and it’s worth a listen.
Props to Doc!
