The Boot Camp Click (Black Moon, Heltah Skeltah, Cocoa Brovas, O.G.C., etc.) in their prime were a dynasty in the making and consorted with the elite of New York’s underground hip-hop scene. Since their auspicious arrival, however, these talented emcees have been a shell of their former selves, suffering from a variety of growth-stunting ailments that have depleted their once generous arsenal. Much like their first gathering, this project suffers from many of the same deficiencies: lack of direction and unregimented, Beatminerz-less production. This camp has always been regulated by their more established heavyweights, more specifically by their Napoleonic general Buckshot who continues his offensive with the Beatminerz, revitalizing his original crook style on the spunky “Jump Up.” The BDI Thug also appears on the brutish, mix-tape leaked “Eye of the Scorpio” with Rock, whose bone-jarring vocals steal the spotlight. Heltah Skeltah’s lone group effort, the enticing “Ultimate Rush” features Canada’s emcee, Saukrates. However, in most compilations or soundtracks, there is no way around the requisite amount of filler-material or trivial collaborations, and this recording is by no means any different.
