Closed Sessions Vol. 1 was recorded predominantly between July and December of 2009, and released as a free mixtape via Bandcamp, Zshare, and the almighty Mediafire in March of 2010. Each session was recorded at SoundScape Studios, where the entire recording process was documented via photos and videos, allowing fans into the studio with some of indie Hip Hop’s most prominent names.

Each participating artist also performed at rubyhornet’s monthly party, and got a first hand tour of Chicago’s music and arts community.

Ten years later, Closed Sessions Vol. 1 serves as a time capsule for an extremely special and unique time in Hip Hop – when blogs were the number one source for music discovery and Chicago Hip Hop was emerging as a power player.

Closed Sessions Vol. 1 includes a mix of familiar names such as Curren$y, Bun B, and Amanda Diva as well as underground heroes like Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother, Skyzoo, Emilio Rojas, GLC and Rhymefest.
