R.I.P. Johnny Burns, a.k.a. ‘Mausberg’, who was robbed & murdered in Compton on July 4, 2000. He died a few days before he was scheduled to put the finishing touches on his debut solo album. That album, ‘Non Fiction’, was released posthumously about a year later, a few months after the release of the Konnectid Project compilation. Mausberg was just 21 years old at the time of his death.

Here is Suga Free & Mausberg’s exceptional ‘Konnectid Project Volume 1’ compilation album, circa 2000. This is one of my absolute favorite Rap compilations ever. It’s a planned, cohesive unit with exclusive tracks, not just a bunch of singles cobbled together. There are no throw-away tracks on here, and nobody has a verse that sounds “phoned in” — a testament to everyone’s belief in Mausberg being a hit when his album dropped.

Featuring production by DJ Quik, Big Saccs (a.k.a. Dazzie Dee!), ‘D-Funk’ Fisher, and more, there are some bangin’ west-coast-smooth style beats on here. This album has exclusive songs on it that are some of the best DJ Quik + Suga Free pimpin’ tracks, one of my all-time favorite rapper tag-teams. Enjoy this one, it’s another very good CD you can play from start-to-finish and groove with every song. Some more good classics are headed your way, keep a fateye out.
