Secondson, aka Leon West, runs Cardiff’s SFDB Records, and records for his label too, after the demise of his previous group Fleapit.

Fleapit were beginning to be something of a UK hip hop force in 2002, but soon a split put paid to a promising fledging career for the outfit. Secondson went his own way, recording under the name Secondson & His Orchestra.

Secondson is an accomplished musician – with many sessions with other artists to his credit – and, lesser known, he was a broadsheet photojournalist; something reflected in the stunning photography gracing the releases on his own label, SFDB.

The self-titled Secondson & His Orchestra album was released in 2005, featuring collaborations from some of the UK’s foremost hip hop talent. Taskforce, Jehst, Lewis Parker and Goldie Lookin’ Chain all joined the party.

Critical acclaim for the set was almost universal, setting Secondson up as an inventive, multi-skilled character on not only the local and regional scene, but the national one too.
