Live Human - Monostereosis The New Victrola Method

Formed in San Francisco’s Bay Area, Live Human form a 3-piece experimental hip-hop ensemble, consisting of Albert Mathias (drums) and Andrew Kushin (upright bass), alongside Carlos Aguiler (aka DJ Quest) – a member of Battle DJ collectives, The Space Travellers and The Bulletproof Scratch Hamsters.

A former DMC champion, who’s beaten off the likes of The Invisibl Skratch Picklz, in Live Human Quest acts as a pure turntablist, relying solely on his amazing sleights of wrist to flesh out Mathias and Kushin’s loose, live beats n’ bass chassis with a stunning, spontaneous display of scratchadelic skills. Check out the brief but awesome ‘G-Shroom’ for a stunning example of these skills – vinyl source material is chopped around and transformed, pushed and pulled to form a mad, sliced-up flow.

Occupying a unique space in the genres of both free-improvised jazz and hip-hop, Live Human’s performance consists of a free-flowing flux, with no instrument subordinate to any other.
