Buck Up Princess apparently means “pull your pants up and stop whining”. Sound advice. In fact, the UK debut from Canadian arsonist-turned-preacher-turned-rapper (at least according to the press release) is full of such entertaining patter and philosophical wordplay. Like his countryman and friend, Buck 65, Josh’s hip-hop isn’t about wearing crap jewellery, waving guns and shouting about “hoes”. Instead, it’s a thought-provoking mix of homemade melodies and intelligently observed lyrics. His quality control almost lets him down (there’s a staggering 17 tracks) but if you like your leftfield hip-hop, it’ll certainly buck you up.
