J-Zone – A Bottle Of Whup Ass: The EP (CD) (2000) (FLAC + 320 kbps)
J-Zone is the alter-ego of Jay Mumford, a quiet and diminutive SUNY graduate. During his senior year, Jay made a rap album for his senior project entitled, Music For Tu Madre. The LP was a hit across campus and eventually made its way onto the Internet. Two years alter, J-Zone released his sophomore effort, A Bottle of Whup Ass The EP. The album earned a perfect 10.0 rating from the now defunct indie website, Tha-Real.com, propelling the rapper into the underground spotlight. With comical tales about getting rejected by woman and drinking alcohol, J-Zone was a humorous character who was able to poke fun at himself – something taboo in hip-hop. Where J-Zone really shined, though, was with his production. With some of the quirkiest samples imagined, A Bottle of Whup Ass is arguably one of the best produced underground albums of the past decade. In fact, the EP is one of the few indie releases that still sounds as fresh and innovative today as it did upon its release.
