Frank Real – Frank Real (CD) (2000) (FLAC + 320 kbps)
This is an impressive debut from a relatively unknown artist from Atlanta, GA. The opening song, “My Afterlife,” opens with a very young girl asking her father to “come back and play with us daddy,” and is a chilling introspective where Frank Real carries on a conversation with God about the life he just lost. On the track he delves into life’s devils, killing a priest and burning a church along the way. The song works well and sets the mood for both a brutal and brutally honest album mainly about Frank, his thoughts, and his life. As musically appealing as it is intelligent and thought-provoking, there are welcome appearances from Cee-Lo of Goodie Mob, Bun B of UGK, Yung Wun of Rough Riders, Boo the Boss Playa, Wall St, and Spade. Overall, this is still a hardcore gangsta rap album, and easily one of the better Southern rap records of 2000.
