Destro has long established himself as one of the premier Emcee’s in the Northwest Hip Hop scene. As one half of Boom Bap Project and a founding member of Oldominion, Destro has performed around the globe sharing the stage with Del the Funky Homosapien, Blackalicious, Brother Ali, The Roots, and many others. Destro grew up in Portland OR and started performing at local clubs in the late 90’s before moving to Seattle for a few years. While in Seattle, Destro joined forces with Karim, and with the help of super-producers Jake One, Vitamin D and Mr. Hill, they released “Circumstance Dictates” and “Reprogram,” the latter on the mighty Rhymesayers Entertainment label. Destro moved back in Portland in between the two records and continued to tour. While back home, Destro helped in creating “Thorn City Improv,” an all-freestyle collective/ live band that did a weekly night for almost 2 years.

Fast-forward to 2010 and Destro is set to release his first solo project in partnership with Vinyl Fluid Records. The EP titled “Working Progress” is a collection of six new songs and a bonus track that serve as a primer for his full-length album “Ill.ustrated” due out in early 2011. “Working Progress” is a tribute to independent thinkers everywhere and deals with the struggle of chasing one’s dreams. In the opening track “Keep Ticking,” Destro discusses his journey trying to balance music and fatherhood over a soulful DaiN beat. “Rapper” features guest appearances from Oldmoninon teammates PeGee13 and Anaxagorus and showcases the trio flexing over a haunting PeGee13 beat. The journey takes an upbeat turn with “Get High” and “This Rounds On Me,” two party anthems for hip-hop heads with production by Arkitek. Next comes “The Reveal,” a warning to rappers about selling out and about supporting the independent movement, produced by Vancouver BC’s DJ A-Statik. “Inside My Head” finds Destro musing about society’s ills and features Josh Malm AKA Redwood Son on the chorus. The album wraps up with “The Struggle.” This re-mixed and re-mastered version of the previously released track off of Boom Bap Project’s “The Shakedown” is a call to arms for everyday people to work for change.
