The album opens with a fitting “What’s new?” Degiheugi surprises us while remaining true to himself-a creator of magical atmospheres and a master soundscaper, backed here by a world-class lineup. Highlights include three appearances by Miscellaneous, the gentle voice of Astrid Van Peeterssen, the gravelly flow of Canadian artist Andree, and-above all-the collaboration with Pierre the Motionless and Brzowski on the superb track “Embers.” Spanning 21 tracks that blend jazz, hip-hop, and electro, the album paints a world that is colorful, mellow, captivating, and rich in flavor. The “Degiheugi touch” lies in that special quality-at once melancholic and punchy-that sets him apart from the likes of Wax Tailor (more mainstream) and Doctor Flake (colder in style), with whom he is often compared.
